As a San Diego maternity photographer, Windansea Beach is one of my favorite places to photograph expecting mamas. Even though I take Windansea maternity photos often, each session feels unique, which makes every gallery feel extra special.
One of the things I love most about Windansea is that it is always changing. Between the tides and the the light, no two sessions ever look exactly the same. The sunsets here are always stunning and the rocky coastline adds so much depth and texture to every session.

All of my maternity sessions are scheduled about an hour before sunset. This is when the light is soft and golden which is exactly the look you see throughout my work. That dreamy glow is worth planning around.
I photograph maternity sessions on weekdays only, which helps us avoid the larger weekend crowds and keeps the experience calm and relaxed.
I recommend scheduling maternity photos between 30 and 34 weeks. Your bump is beautifully visible, but you are typically still comfortable enough to move, walk, and enjoy the session. It also checks one big thing off that growing pregnancy to do list before the final weeks arrive.

Choosing outfits for your maternity session can feel overwhelming, but this is where I love to step in and help. Every client receives a detailed What to Wear Guide that walks you through outfit choices and helps you feel confident and comfortable going into your session.
At the beach, I always recommend light neutrals and soft tones. These colors photograph beautifully and allow everything in your gallery to flow together. Windansea has darker rocks and cliffs, so lighter outfits tend to stand out in the best way and keep the focus on you.
If you are currently shopping for a maternity dress, I share my favorite bump friendly dresses on my LTK page. Everything I link there is chosen with beach photo sessions in mind.

One of the most common things my clients tell me is that they are nervous about posing. I always reassure them that posing is completely my job. You do not need to know what to do or how to stand
My goal is for your maternity session to feel easy and carefree. I guide you throughout the entire session in a way that feels relaxed and fun. Nothing stiff, nothing overly posed, just gentle direction that allows you to relax and be present.
Your session will feel more like an evening walk at the beach. I want you to be able to just take a deep breath and be present. I will do the rest.

Many of my clients schedule maternity photos while visiting San Diego, often for their baby moon. Windansea is a wonderful option for expecting mamas who want to document this season.
If you are visiting from out of town, I recommend planning your session earlier in your trip. This allows flexibility in case of poor weather and gives you time to relax and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.
I am always happy to help with planning details so your maternity session fits seamlessly into your time in San Diego.
If you are dreaming of a Windansea Beach maternity session, I would love to chat with you. I truly enjoy planning these sessions and making each one feel personal and meaningful for every couple or family.
